Attraction
Being one of the most revered attractions in Israel there is plenty to see and do here. The warm and crystal clear waters create bio-systems that support several types of flora and fauna. The Lake Tiberias also supports other life forms like fishes, which have played a significant role in the commercial fishery industry for almost 2 million years. Apart from the beaches, the fishes and the magnificent waters of the Lake Tiberias, the other attractions include:
* Hammat: The ancient town of Hammat is situated just outside Tiberias and boasts of some of the hottest mineral springs in the whole of Israel. The temperature of the hot springs is around 140º. But the good part is that in spite of their popularity, they have not been converted into a natural spa and remains un-spoilt as always.
* Bethsaida: This is an ancient fishing village that is situated on the northeastern side of the Lake Tiberias. Traditionally, this village is considered to be the home of Jesus' apostles Andrew and Peter. The area is rich in flora and fauna because it is washed by the Jordan River as well as several streams that have sprung out of the Golan Heights. The Jordan River along with the streams forms a marshy delta, which is home to several varieties of birds and animals including the water-fowl.
* Kibbutz Ginosar: Kibbutz Ginosar is situated 6 miles to the north of Tiberias and is famous for being the home to one of Israel’s greatest statesmen, Yigal Allon. There is a museum in kibbutz dedicated to Allon's history and life as well as the history of the entire region of Galilee. The museum even houses the “Jesus boat,” which is basically a 2,000-year-old boat that was excavated from around Kinneret in 1985 and there are many people who believe that it was used during the time when Jesus was alive.
* Midgal: An agricultural settlement situated 2miles from Tiberias, it is famous for being the birth town of Mary Magdalene.
